Columbia II

I spent some more time in Columbia on Thursday, meeting with a few more people. Then on Friday I drove to Spartanburg to catch up with the Huesman's. I had also finally found a ticket to get into the stadium for the big game on Saturday.

On Saturday morning I drove to Boiling Springs and met up with Stuart. We drove back to Columbia together. There we hung out in the Fairgrounds meeting with some other friends. Here is a picture of us with Kathy.

We also met a few people that we didn't expect to. There are 80,000 people wandering around the stadium and you randomly meet people that you used to work with or used to go to class with.

The game itself was fun as well. Though the Gamecocks made a lot of mistakes, the game was still competitive for the most part. 2001 was as great as ever and the energy level in the stadium seemed even higher than back in the days when I went to school there.

After the game I hung around for just a bit before driving down south to Georgia. In all I had a good time in Columbia, was able to reflect a good bit on the past, and meet a good number of old friends and colleagues. Unfortunately there was not enough time to meet everybody, so I will have to come back sometime soon.

I spent the night near Augusta and drove on to Birmingham today. Here I spent some time with Katie, who I used to work with and became friends with in my last year in college. She showed me around Birmingham a bit, where she works and I also got to see the Hoover Met, home of the SEC baseball tournament.

More pics here.
